I can see clearly now....

The frames of my spectacles have needed replacement for some time, but I had not got around to doing it. I'd been thinking about it for more than six months, when finally catching a free long weekend, decided to go and check a frame out last Saturday.

My eye's are pretty bad and the trouble is that when I take my glasses off to try a new frame on, I can't see what it looks like in the mirror until my nose is almost jammed against the glass, which is why I always end up choosing some horrible frame so this time I took a friend along, to help me decide.

As a matter of routine, I got my eyes checked (on the little machine) as well and the guy in the shop said my eyesight had improved a lot. He double checked by getting me to read the letters off a card placed at a distance (the old fashioned way of testing eyesight) and it still showed a big improvement. He wanted me to get my blood sugar checked and I decided to go to a proper eye surgeon as well.

To cut the long story short, my eyes have improved by about 50% and when I put on my new glasses it was amazing. I could see so much detail, traffic lights, number plates, the speedometer on the dashboard even the gravel on the road - everything was pin-sharp. I could see faces the small photographs hanging on the wall without peering at it.

My eyesight has probably been changing for about a year at least, I don't know how I managed to get by thus far. I cursing and wondering if by wearing my high powered lenses I actually weakened the eye further.

The optometrist was amazed that I did not seem to have noticed much discomfort; there were the odd difficulties but I thought it was overwork, stress, etc.

Anyway, I shall be testing my eyes more regularly and with any luck can move to lower powered glasses in another year.

ps. My eye's used to be -6 and -5.5; now they are -3 and -3.5.

it happens. i shunned my glasses for a while and my sight just got better.also, why not contacts?

Contacts - err the though of fiddling with bits of plastic in my eye puts me off.

There is a risk of infection, unless one is careful with contacts, so that's my excuse!

Dee - keep checking every year anyway. Besides, women can look pretty hot in glasses so don't worry:)

Same here! Would you believe that I hadn't had my sight check in 2 years and bit! Went to an eye surgeon recently and was told that my eyesight has improved drastically. From -7 to -2.5!

My new lenses are -5 'cause making the change from -7 to -2.5 would have been too strong for my eye all of a sudden.

Here's hoping yours continues to improve! =)

i was thinking of the same song!!

contacts are so easy only a two day struggle

I second what Santhoshi says. It's easy to get used to... and woah on the improvement! That is good! Mine just seem to deteriorate. Going on a -10 at the moment.

Egad. Now I find that all bloggers are not only journalists or ad agents but blind as well....;) Maybe its all the staring at the computer screen.

Puppeteer: I don't get it, you need only -2.5 and they get you to wear -5? That does not sound right. I would suggest that you speak to another eye surgeon.

The lens is supposed to correct the weakness in the eye, if you wear the wrong lens (+/-) the eye is probably under strain. Anyway, hope you sight improves.

Cadence-jeez how did they get to be so bad? Can you see anything without your glasses? I suppose if they are that bad, contacts are the answer.

Santhoshi - I was thinking of that song too when naming the post.

Bloody hell - I thought I was bad with my -1.0 but you guys!

I have just started wearing contacts for nights out because I hate having to wear my glasses (which I need for driving and watching tv from a distance) and then taking them off before going into a party/club and not being able to see where at the bar my friends are and squinting like a lame ass!

Mine's getting worse all the time and I have to paint the frames in black whenever I go out. -_-

Jack Point said...

Gadgetgirl,
oh dear, but as I said, women can look pretty hot in the right frames.

How do you paint your frames? The paint on mine has chipped as well, painting them would be a good idea.

Thats brilliant! Those kind of scenarios are far and few between.

Mines rapidly deteriorating. It stands at -12 at the moment and I'm waiting for it to stabilize so I can have something called a lens transplant surgery (at least I think thats the name)

I've been wearing contacts since I was 12 because I was told that I could go blind early in life if I didn't. :S

Lol. We are a bunch of blind bloggers!

Gutter: Too much time blogging perhaps! :-P

Lol. I sincerely hope not!

Thanks GG. As I've now got plastic lenses I need to wash the glasses and wipe them so the paint is peeling off faster. Was thinking of scraping it all off.
