Hoppers with jam, anyone?

I have introduced some friends from overseas to the delights of a hopper. The only thing is, they seem to prefer to eat them with jam, strawberry jam in particular, rather than the usual curries.

Even an egg hopper is rejected in favour of the plain hopper with jam, although the sweet milk hopper is accepted willingly enough.

Does anyone else like this (to me at least) strange combination?

I remember eating hoppers with butter as a child but cannot remember ever liking them with jam.

There's no accounting for taste I suppose.

JP - As far as I'm concerned hoppers with jam is not normal, it's wrong and would be illegal if I was President. However, I recently saw some tourists eat egg hoppers with jam!!!

You can imagine my horror!

RD , Whackster: I suppose in this age of acceptance of all manner of unusual traits we need to come to terms with jammy hopper people in a respectful, non-discriminatory, way....:)

On other hand, a shoot on sight policy may have its merits as well:)

don't knock it til you try it folks. it's actually really good, though the egg-hopper with jam sounds gross. but maybe that's just me, i dont like the drippy-eggy kind of hopper.

Err...rigth..who would have have though hoppers would be so popular? I have to say though I've never considered it...though I might try it when I get the chance:). An egg hopper with jam is probably where I draw the line though!

Oh for an egg hopper and prawn curry right now...

Hoppers are so versatile - for me (when my grandmother makes them anyway) they form a fantastic combination:

Egg hoppers and plain with spicy curry for the main meal

Plain hoppers liberally buttered with jam or a sprinkling of sugar for dessert...

I'm with the general consensus that jam is best combined with the plain hopper.

Dontcha just love Sri Lankan food?

aha! i say we all head over to jack's for breakfast. bring your own jam of course.

jack, i think the polite thing to do would be to invite everyone over after you've been telling us what a great cook your mum is.

Omigosh, what have i started?

Maybe I will call you guys over, sometime...

Tried a hopper with woodapple jam, needed to stell mysleft to try - BUt it was actually good. It would have been better with butter and jam I think but that would have shot my diet to pieces so stuck with the jam.

Woodapple jam is one of my favourites by the way.
